Salon des Solidarités and Joint Efforts with OSM, URD and More
Coordination is the key to success in humanitarian affairs, whether it concerns delivery of food, water or collection and dissemination of information. In support of coordinated information management and data collection initiatives, ActivityInfo, the NOMAD project, OpenStreetMap, Sahana, Sigmah open source projects, and Agence Limité & France Volontaires have joined forces.
Discussing open source solutions and communities for humanitarian action, we discovered that a collective effort will improve progress for the individual organizations and projects involved and for the overall effort within humanitarian affairs. “The emergence of open source humanitarianism shows us the pathway to the future of humanitarian information management and should be developed in conjunction with all the major players involved in humanitarian affairs and the collection of data and management of information” said Olivier Sarrat of Groupe URD & Sigmah on behalf of the organizations involved in the event.
“Let the positive outcomes of this salon galvanize our interest to work together more collaboratively,” Sarrat said. All of these organizations and more were involved in the Salon des Solidarités, an event that took place in June 2012 and was widely seen as successful in this regard.
