Screencasts and E-Learning
In 2008, CartONG started with the first series of screencasts; explaining the UNHCR GeoPortal to non technical users in videoformat.
Detailed comparisons of screencast software as well as reviews of electronic voices was conducted and helped to lay the groundwork for CartONG's expertise in this area. Ever since, CartONG had been asked to update the screencasts for the GeoPortal; with 2011 seeing the production of the first French translations. The deliverables do not only include Video and Audio, but also the storyline and the Quiz questions as accompanying pdf document. The videos contain hyperlinks and flash functionalities ("Click to Continue") which enable the users to read more and at their own pace. All the elements can be dowloaded and the whole package was produced to also work offline.
Here you can find the url for the externally hosted videos (last update 2010): http://dedibox.cartong.org/LearningCorner2010/

Since the products were well received, CartONG was also asked to create the screencasts for the ICRC GeoPortal in 2011/2012. Concept, design and even some of the functionalities as well as user base and case scenarios were different and therefore a fully customized product with an html webpage to host the videos was created. The videos are hosted in the intranet and are presented in IFrame/Slider which allows the user to browse through all available videos. The concept is scaleable and therefore allows for user content and user videos to be loaded as well.

- Participatory Forest Inventory

- Remote Sensing
- Carbon Model
The target audiences are professionals with basic understanding of the above mentioned topics, who are interested in the process of REDD and would like to conduct it in a participatory fashion and with Open Source Tools.
The platform to present the course consequently had to be Open Source as well and therefore the popular Moodle platform was chosen. The course is free of charge and therefore open to all interested users. To vie the content and brows the course, create a User account here.
