The Global Shelter Cluster (GSC) is an Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) coordination mechanism that supports people affected by natural disasters and internally displaced people affected by conflict with the means to live in safe, dignified and appropriate shelter. The GSC enables better coordination among shelter actors, including local and national governments, so that people who need shelter assistance get help faster and receive the right kind of support.
The GSC is is a public platform co-chaired by IFRC and UNHCR at the global level, and it has 45 partners who participate on a regular basis. IFRC is convener of the Shelter Cluster in natural disasters while UNHCR leads the Shelter Cluster in conflict situations.
Chronologiquement, le support en cartographie a permis de pallier les besoins exponentiels en compétences de gestion de données et en géolocalisation. CartONG a soutenu l'UNOSAT dans l’analyse primaire des dommages à partir d’images satellites.
L'UNOSAT est le Programme d'Application Opérationnelles des Satellites, dépendant de l'UNITAR, l'organisme de formation des Nations Unies.
Enfin, le travail avec le Shelter Cluster (qui coordonne les organisations internationales et les ONG sur les questions de logement) à Port au Prince a permis de continuer le travail engagé dans la gestion de l’information sur les camps de déplacés. Rapports, cartes, synthèses produits par CartONG pour le Cluster ont été largement utilisés. Ce projet a été soutenu financièrement par la Fédération Internationale de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge (FICR).
