Following the decision to redesign its governance model, CartONG created in January - for the first time in its history - an Executive Director position. Today, CartONG is proud to introduce its new Executive Director, Claire Finas.
“Stepping into the leadership of CartONG is an honor and an exciting challenge. I look forward to working with an agile and dedicated team, and contributing to our mission to support the Humanitarian Aid and International Development sector in building a world where relevant and responsible data management enables an effective response to humanitarian crises and contributes to the resilience of local communities to the challenges ahead.” - Claire Finas, CartONG's Executive Director
With over 15 years of experience in management and leadership in the humanitarian and development sector, Claire has been following CartONG's journey with interest for a few years now.
Familiar with data management following her experience as Director of Global Operations at iMMAP France, Claire is particularly aware of the challenges faced by H2H technical organizations such as CartONG. An interest that led her to direct the H2H Network fund for almost 2 years. During this experience, Claire met CartONG through projects financed by the H2H Fund during the COVID-19 crisis as well as during the organization of the 2020 GeOnG forum!
Her extensive background resonates with CartONG's challenges today: in various multicultural contexts, in large international organizations as well as smaller ones, in operational NGOs like our partners or technical ones like us, in headquarters as well as in the field with the local actors we support, working both on the operationality of the humanitarian response but also on its evolution, agility and innovation... We count on her to embody CartONG's values and to guide the work of the team around our mission.
“As Executive Director of CartONG, my vision is to lead our organization towards operational excellence, strengthen our technical expertise and continue to improve our impact in humanitarian assistance and development. I am committed to guiding CartONG to a future where we are a leading data management organization for Humanitarian Aid and International Development actors, taking an innovative and collaborative approach to solving the most complex problems faced by our partners and the communities we serve.” - Claire Finas
Collective intelligence and participation as a guiding principle for a strategic position
This position will have a key role in our NGO to ensure (i) the direction of CartONG's strategy and associative project, (ii) the organizational and financial management of the structure as well as (iii) its operational management. One of the main tasks will be to guarantee the coherence of our operational choices with the strategic orientations already defined and those to come. The creation of this new position reflects our desire to remain true to our values and our mission to provide the best possible support to humanitarian, development and social action organizations, whether it be through our skills, our methodology or our tools, in order to remain ever more relevant in our approach.
The collective intelligence and participation of the team in the key decisions of the organization is a key component of CartONG's spirit. The dimensions of this new position and its objectives were therefore defined by a Working Group composed of members of the salaried team and the association's board. A collaborative process that involved a total of 10 volunteer members (employees and volunteers) of all profiles, for nearly 4 months to jointly define what the opening of such a position entailed and to choose the right candidate.
What lies ahead in the next few months!
The arrival of our Executive Director is one more step in the establishment of our new governance and in the implementation of our 2022-24 Strategy. This will be followed in June by a one-day meeting of the staff (in the presence of the board) to elect our new coordinating body: the CCT (CartONG Coordination Team) which, with the Executive Director, will propose the strategic orientations of the organization and will be in charge of ensuring their proper implementation.
A key day for CartONG which will also precede the General Assembly and the election of the association's board for the period June 2023 - June 2024 during our traditional bi-annual associative gathering, the Get-Together!
In the short term, you will be able to meet Claire and part of our team from April 24th at the Geneva International Conference Center during the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks!
