This year's Information Management activities at the annual UNHCR NGO Consultation event saw new interactive elements inviting the participants to inform and test new ways of collecting, analyzing and disseminating data.
Therefore the plenary session was kept short and sweet, allowing the participants to roam the booths which were demonstrating not only UNHCR's new development in information management, but also new projects of some of the Implementing Partners like ACTED with the REACH Initiative, ACAPS and JIPS.
CartONG was actively involved in the preparation of the event and conducted a survey with Android Phones while the participants were browsing and discussing at the booths. Ten volunteers from UNHCR and other organizations assisted in this effort to allow for a good coverage. All the volunteers attended a 30 min training session on how to use the phones which all were equipped with ODK Collect (OpenDataKit, a free and open source soft for mobile data collection). The phones were synchronized and the questions analyzed and presented in the closing session of the plenary.
An event like this can also contain a little fun element; CartONG and UNHCR designed a set of Information Management (IM) tattoos on special skin friendly adhesive printing paper for visitors to take away. The most popular tattoo remained the Cookie monster with "IM - We have cookies" with real cookies being offered at the exhibition area, followed by "Source my Crowd" and "I'm IM".
