CartONG realeases its 2024 Annual Report

The year was also shaped by strengthened strategic partnerships, particularly with the French Development Agency (AFD), UNHCR, and other key actors in international solidarity. These collaborations enable us to amplify our global impact and anchor our expertise in information management and GIS within international dynamics. The publication of key studies, such as “Changing perspective: towards a local approach to data” and “Beyond the numbers: Reconciling innovation, ethics and impact”, illustrates our commitment to actively contributing to strategic debates in the sector.
The localization of aid remained at the heart of our priorities. We consolidated our network of local partners and supported the capacity building of OpenStreetMap communities, notably in Senegal, Bangladesh and Tanzania. These efforts are part of a co-construction approach for tailored solutions, ranging from direct support to national authorities in West and Central Africa, to advocating for this message in international forums such as the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW).
Finally, 2024 was a year of tangible achievements in the field:
- 16 missions carried out in 8 countries
- 84,000 buildings mapped (twice as many as in 2023)
- 11,750 km of roads mapped
- 44 mapathons
In total, 40 projects were carried out, supported by a team of 33 staff members, over 50 volunteers, 75 members and more than 500 volunteer actions. All of which are clear signs of the collective commitment that makes CartONG stronger!
