CartONG provides GIS and mapping services in support to the MSF GIS-Unit since 2013. As part of our support, CartONG has designed the Map Centre platform: a full-custom application, which acts as a single point of entry to access all geographical products used by MSF for its activities. Since its creation and the drafting of its statutes in 2006, CartONG had not updated any document defining its global objectives. With the growth and diversification of our activities in recent years, it had become necessary to draft an associative project that would clarify the social contribution of our organization to society, specify its fields of expertise, (re)define its values and detail our growth over the past 13 years – so as to guide future developments.
In March 2019, CartONG carried out a 2-week mission in Burkina Faso in support of the Yaam Solidarité association. Here is a look back at the mobile data collection and mapping support we provided and the collaborative and sustainable approach we implemented.
Launched in May 2018, the Maps from here & abroad project aims to create new frameworks for exchange and intercultural dialogue between migrants and members of their host society through mapping workshops. One of the main aspect of the work carried out by CartONG since its creation in 2006 has been to build capacity within the aid sector, particularly in the fields of GIS and MDC. After a year dedicated to structuring and scaling up our training offer in 2017, CartONG carried out a significative work in 2018 on the training and support services offered to its partners.
CartONG and its partner Les Petits Débrouillards have been implementing for nearly a year a project to raise awareness about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) throughout the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, called "EducAuRA". As part of this project, CartONG created a map exhibition on the topic of migration entitled "When maps speak to us"; which we are inviting you to discover here.
CartONG concluded in December 2018 a project to build a “data collaborative” in DRC to improve the measure of SDGs around health thanks to crowd-sourcing and in particular OpenStreetMap. But as usual in DRC, things turned out to be a little more complex than anticipated!
