Contract type : Fixed-term contract (CDD)

Start date : As soon as possible. Fixed-term contract (CDD) until 31/12/2026

Location : Either at the association's head office in Chambéry, with the possibility of remote working up to 3 days a week, or 100% remote working in mainland France.

Salary : Based on salary scale and experience. 39-hour/week contract (35 hours + 4 paid overtime/week). (see more)

Other advantages : Supplementary health insurance covered at 61% by CartONG; Provident scheme covered at 100%; The possibility to work remotely from abroad a few weeks a year.

Context & missions

This position is open as part of a reinforcement of the existing team. This is a Fixed-Term Contract (CDD) until December 31, 2026.

The missions

The GIS Officer’s activities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Cartography / GIS

Needs analysis

  • Assist in the needs assessment on selected GIS projects.
  • Understand and analyse map requests from our partners.
  • Discuss with map requesters to clarify their needs.

Cartographic production

  • Collect, clean and process geographical data.
  • Produce static and dynamic maps in response to requests from our partners.

Methodology

  • Apply procedures, use existing templates and styles to ensure standardized board production.
  • Participate in the improvement of CartONG’s GIS & mapping processes, to continuously improve the responsiveness and quality of the work of the mapping department by improving and creating new styles and templates.
  • Ensure a technological watch on a subject of your choice.

Training and documentation

  • Write documentation, guidelines and tutorials for internal use and for partners.
  • Be part of the pool of trainers to facilitate training on cartography/GIS and contribute to the creation/updating of material.

Support to CartONG’s associative life

  • Participate in activities supporting CartONG’s associative mission, such as get-togethers, green days, in-house training. Support volunteer projects and projects concerning the organization in general.

Profile required

Previous experience

5 years’ higher education in geomatics, geography or equivalent.

3 to 5 years in geomatics.

Experience in the international solidarity sector would be a plus.

Language skills

Excellent written and spoken French and English.

Technical skills:

  • Expert in ESRI tools: ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, (ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Field Map, an asset).
  • Skills in automation (model builder, python).
  • Database management skills: Enterprise GDB, PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with QGIS would be a plus.

Cross-disciplinary skills:

  • Demonstrate autonomy.
  • Be proactive and rigorous.
  • Strong interest in new technologies and solving technical bugs.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • An interest in the humanitarian sector.
