CartONG endorses the 9 Principles for Digital Development!

As part of the process of designing a comprehensive Associative Project in early 2019, CartONG decided it was a natural step forward for our organization to officially endorse the principles for Digital development, as our actions are based on strong principles that are fully aligned with all 9 of them. Since its creation in 2006, CartONG has been dedicated to making data available for humanitarian, social and development projects. The use of information management tools, particularly geographical tools, has always been at the heart of our actions. To this end, CartONG promotes the sharing and responsible use of data, tools and methods by and for all. It strives to work in a spirit of collaboration and partnership for a lasting impact. CartONG brings its multidisciplinary expertise and the commitment of its volunteer and staff teams to the technical, strategic and ethical challenges of digital technology.

As part of the process of designing a comprehensive Associative Project in early 2019, CartONG decided it was a natural step forward for our organization to officially endorse the Principles for Digital Development, as our actions are based on strong principles that are fully aligned with all 9 of them.

As a matter of fact, the principle of collaboration is one of our core values as we focus on involving all stakeholders and making our projects and research benefit as many people as possible through an extended network.

Our active involvement in the OpenStreetMap community, notably as a member of Missing Maps, or the frequent publication of documentation in Creative Commons such as the MDC Toolkit created with Terre des hommes, also illustrate our commitment to open standards and sharing within a network.

We are driven in all our actions and achievements by one of our core values, agility. Our activities are therefore systematically carried out in collaboration with the users, focusing as much as possible on user-centric design.

As specialists in information management, we are data driven and are committed to respect and adhere to data protection principles. We also strive to integrate the principles of sustainability and relevance in all our projects with our partners, with the publication of numerous studies to understand the technical environment in which we navigate or to provide feedback on our experiences.

As an endorser of the Principles for Digital Development, CartONG will seek to embody the concepts of the Digital Principles, represented in our work culture and in the policies and processes guiding our international development activities.

We will also strive to promote these principles within our association but also among our partners.
